The mission of Home Help for Hispanic Mothers (HHHM) is to empower and support Latina women and children of Tehama County as they strive for full dignity and self-determination
with special emphasis on the poor and disenfranchised. The Latino families served live in a rural agricultural area of Tehama County,
which covers 2,951 square miles in the northern Sacramento Valley. Most are seasonal agricultural workers with yearly incomes well below the poverty level.
Home Help for Hispanic Mothers’s target population is undocumented immigrant Latinas with less than an eighth-grade education.
HHHM serves approximately 300 Latinas through their programs and support services.
HHHM is a new program for NVCSS, and it is expected that during the first transition year the focus
will be on strengthening and building the existing infrastructure of this much-needed program. We are planning to continue, build, and strengthen the existing and highly successful service areas:
- Mercy Visitor Program. This program links women and children with medical care, emergency food, interpretation, and other personal support services necessary
to survive in their transition into America.
- Home Based ESL Program. This program offers homebound Latina mothers small group English instructions.
- Latina Leadership Project. This program empowers Latina mothers to further develop their communication and leadership skills.
