Description:

We are looking for a Peer Assistant to serve in our pilot program to determine the need and response for additional services in Mt. Shasta. This position will work under the direction of the Program Manager and will offer non-crisis mental health peer-to-peer support and run three wellness groups once a week in Mt. Shasta with the opportunity to grow as needed. The goal is to provide members with a directed wellness program that fosters recovery and resiliency. These services include peer support, socialization activities as well as wellness and recovery activities. Any individual experiencing mental health challenges, and/or their family member(s), are welcome to participate in center activities.

Examples of Duties:

A successful candidate must be able to work with, support and respect diverse groups of people. Inform, educate and train peers and families regarding wellness and recovery values and practices in support of their journey of recovery including coping skills and self-care strategies. Provide peer counseling and mentoring on a one-to-one basis in person or over the phone while practicing active, empathetic and reflective listening. Greet and engage program participants and visitors at the Wellness Center. Provide assistance in navigating the mental health system and provide referrals to appropriate services. Maintain confidentiality, professionalism and respect in all interactions.


Salary:

Starting Range: $15.50 (Step A) - $16.44 (Step C)

Minimum Employment Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. Priority will be given to candidates who have lived experience, particularly with mental health and/or substance abuse recovery. Mental health consumers are highly encouraged to apply. Ability to attend and be on time at scheduled shifts. At least one year in facilitating groups, having knowledge of local resources, and having a Peer Certification are preferred.
