We are looking for Peer Assistants to serve in our low-barrier homeless shelter in Yreka. This position will work under the direction of the Program Manager and will offer peer-to-peer support to other shelter guests and assist staff with the shelter operations.Examples of Duties:
A successful candidate must be able to work with, support and respect diverse groups of people. Inform, educate and train peers regarding the shelter operations and support of their journey of recovery including coping skills and self-care strategies. Provide peer support and mentoring on a one-to-one basis in person while practicing active, empathetic and reflective listening. Greet and engage shelter guests, volunteers, and visitors at the shelter. Provide assistance in navigating the mental health system and provide referrals to appropriate services. Maintain confidentiality, professionalism and respect in all interactions.
Salary:
Starting Pay Range: $16.00 (Step A) - $16.97 (Step C)Minimum Employment Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Priority will be given to candidates who have lived experience, particularly with mental health, substance abuse recovery, and/or justice involvement. However, candidates must be off supervision to be considered. Mental health consumers are highly encouraged to apply. Ability to attend and be on time at scheduled shifts. At least one year of having knowledge of local resources is preferred, but not required.Other:
Onboarding Training Schedule: You will be trained the first 4 weeks on a variable 15-19 hours work schedule between Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PMExpected Regular Work Schedule:
Position 1: Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 AM - 5:30 AM and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM (with a lunch).
Position 2: Thursday and Friday from 3:30 AM - 5:30 AM and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM (with a lunch).
