Butte Baby Steps is a family support program dedicated to help expectant and new parents get their children off to a healthy start in Butte County. We are seeking two compassionate and dedicated Family Support Specialists to join our team.

The Family Support Specialist is responsible for conducting client assessments, determining program eligibility, and providing comprehensive support to families through home visits and community outreach. The specialist will work collaboratively to help families identify strengths, develop strong parent-child bonds, set and meet goals, and improve parenting skills. The role requires familiarity with community resources to coordinate appropriate program placements, provide referrals, and deliver tailored case management services.

Examples of Duties:

  • Conduct family assessments in various environments (home, office, etc.) to establish program eligibility
  • Write and submit thorough assessment summaries and maintain detailed documentation
  • Provide ongoing case management services, including goal setting, resource referrals, and parenting support
  • Conduct developmental screenings for assigned children and score screening questionnaires
  • Assist families in establishing a medical home, maintaining immunization schedules, and attending well-baby appointments
  • Offer interactive activities that promote parent-child interaction and support family engagement
  • Provide outreach to engage or re-engage families and offer appropriate referrals and resources
  • Collaborate with team members, including other Family Support Specialists and the Baby Steps Supervisor, to review assessment outcomes and develop individualized support plans
  • Coordinate and assist with family socialization activities and events
  • Attend and actively participate in all mandatory meetings, trainings, supervision sessions, and staff meetings
  • Document home visits in the Electronic Health Record system within designated timeframes
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure all family rights paperwork is completed upon enrollment
  • Promote teamwork and represent the Baby Steps program and its partners in a positive, professional manner
  • Provide home visiting services to Child Welfare Protocol families referred by CPS (If applicable to contract)
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Salary:

Starting Pay: $21.54 (Step A) - $22.85 (Step C)

Minimum Employment Qualifications:

Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficiency in conducting comprehensive family assessments in various settings.
Ability to score and analyze developmental screenings and questionnaires.
Experience in providing tailored case management services based on individual family needs.
Skill in setting and helping families achieve goals related to parenting and child development.
Strong writing skills for creating detailed assessment summaries and case notes.
Ability to document home visits and complete required forms accurately and in a timely manner.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with families, team members, and community partners.
Active listening skills to understand family needs and provide appropriate support.
Ability to build trust and rapport with families from diverse backgrounds.
Skill in promoting parent-child interaction and supporting positive family dynamics.
Familiarity with local community resources and services, particularly in Butte County.
Ability to coordinate referrals and navigate families to appropriate programs and services.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple families and tasks simultaneously.
Ability to prioritize tasks, such as assessments, home visits, and documentation, efficiently.
Experience working collaboratively with other support workers, supervisors, and community partners.
Ability to contribute to a positive team environment and participate actively in meetings and supervision sessions.
Sensitivity to and understanding of cultural differences and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting family rights.
Ability to identify challenges families face and develop practical solutions.
Flexibility and adaptability in addressing unexpected issues during home visits or assessments.

This role focuses on providing holistic support to families, emphasizing assessment, case management, and collaboration to ensure that families receive the resources and guidance needed to thrive.

Education and Experience:
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in working with or providing services to children and families.
An ability to establish trusting relationships.
Acceptance of individual differences.
Experience and humility to work with the culturally diverse families.
Knowledge of infant and child development.
Willing to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g. capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.)

Additionally, Family Support Specialists required two reference checks at the start of employment as required by contract.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel frequently to various locations.
Ability to stand for extended periods during teaching, training, and food preparation activities.
Strong verbal communication skills for talking, teaching, and training.
Ability to prepare food, which may involve lifting, bending, and handling kitchen equipment.
Proficiency in using a computer for data entry, report writing, and other tasks, including prolonged periods of sitting and typing.
Capability to move and transport educational materials and equipment as needed.
Visual and auditory abilities to perform tasks involving computer work and communication with others.
Must be able to adhere to process protocol including safety.
Moves equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

Other:

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
